Why the Sims?

The Sims is currently the most popular PC game in the world. PC Gamer features a comprehensive review of the game in its April 2000 issue, with the cover: "The Sims: Game of the year - already?" The magazine gave the game an incredible 96% rating. But it is the format of the game rather than merely its popularity which makes it ideal for our purposes.

The Sims is a long-term game rather than a short-term win-lose type of game. The basic plot is for the player to create a simulated world - complete in virtually every aspect of life. The player creates the people in the game, the Sims of the title, and determines how they live their lives - choosing their careers, homes and relationships in an extraordinarily lifelike manner. The long-term possibility exists of creating a Sims character with asthma, with the necessity of conforming to all the lifestyle health requirements of an actual person with asthma. However, this is likely to be an exorbitantly expensive option due to the extensive R&D costs, and therefore we would not recommend this as an initial option.

The Sims reports exceptionally high regular usage of the game - ideal for acting as a regular asthma reminder function. The Sims is also ideal for this communications programme as it offers different versions for different age groups.
